As part of the Our Year 2024 Crossings and Gateways Programme, Denby Grange Collieries Athletics Club created a new mural for the wall of their community space.

Denby Grange Collieries Athletics Club were supported with a Culture Grant and worked with community arts organisation Artworks to develop their mural. The design for ‘Work and Play in a Colliers’ Day’ was developed through engagement with the local community and users of the space.

The mural artwork reflects how local miners created spaces for leisure by creating the bowling green and playing cricket. The design pays tribute to the deep connection between the collieries’ past and the club’s present and is a celebration of the club’s mining heritage and sporting traditions.
