About the Artist
Harriet Colours is a West Yorkshire based artist. She brings a deep passion for community engagement to her work. Harriets work is a dialogue between the human experience and the natural world, grounded within local heritage. Exploring themes of identity, memory, and the interconnectedness of life through a research-driven approach that draws inspiration from local stories and biodiversity.
“It has been an honour to get to know so many people within the community of Normanton, to create this mural, and learn from their stories and values. And a pleasure to bring their voices to life on this wall, turning a shared space into a meaningful celebration of the town’s important rail history.” – Harriet Colours
As part of the UNBOUND Artist Development Programme, Harriet undertook mentoring of Wakefield district-based artist Rebecca Feneley. Rebecca works with vibrant and delicate illustrations that explore the connection between female energy and nature. In creating this mural, Rebecca supported Harriet on some painting days to enhance her knowledge and experience of working large-scale on public art projects.
