South Elmsall Mural

As part of the Our Year 2024 Crossings and Gateways Programme, artist Peachzz created a new mural in South Elmsall.

To develop the design, Peachzz engaged with children, young people and residents to gather local people’s ideas and local inspiration to feed into the final design for the artwork. Peachzz engaged with Carlton Lane primary school, 23 (South Elmsall) Squadron Air Training Corps, participants from South Elmsall Library including the South Elmsall Writers Group and Poetry Group. Peachzz was supported in the mural production by Creative Associate, Makena Brooks.

The mural depicts a young Roe deer resting gently among bright flowers, representing the young people of South Elmsall. Behind, are outlines of coal mining structures, honouring the town’s deep-rooted mining history. The artwork reflects the town’s journey from its coal mining past toward a future ‘blossoming with possibility’. It is permanently featured on a prominent wall in the town along Barnsley Road, outside the One Stop shop and opposite Westfield Lane.

About the Artist

Artist Peachzz found street art in the UK’s abandoned industries, allowing her to splash paint over forgotten walls. Her work typically looks at nature and life contrasting with the concrete structures of urban spaces. She is a confident painter of large-scale walls. Her style is expressive, with hints of realism all while experimenting with a bold colour palette and storytelling.

Peachzz has travelled with her work all over Europe and has painted as far as the USA, Colombia & Mexico and has worked with people/companies such as UPS, NME,  ITV, The British Council, Avanti West Coast & The Wildlife Trust and has won best street art in June 2024 with Street Art Cities.
