To celebrate the Rhubarb Festival and as part of the Wakefield Historical Society’s centenary year, this talk and tasting event led by nationally renowned food historian Peter Brears explores the little known legacy of ‘Wakefield Gingerbread’ once known throughout the land as a superior local produce and sought after by discerning gingerbread fans.

Many recipes for this treat have survived in the historical record and this event will explore the different recipes. Ginger also makes an excellent companion to rhubarb and is celebrated today by leading chefs as a flavour combination – an essential event for all rhubarb and ginger fans!
