About
Meet Celia, Ackworth School archivist for an external tour of school buildings/grounds, lasting approximately one hour, with an additional optional 30 minutes Q&A session in Centre Library looking at social history records and hearing stories of past students.
Originally a Thomas Coram foundling hospital, the site was purchased by the Society of Friends in the 1770s for the establishment of a school. The buildings are extensive and impressive.
The school was founded in 1779 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) to educate boys and girls.
After parking your vehicle in the visitors car park, walk through to the main entrance facing the main road. There’s a small number of steps at the start and end of the tour.
