About
A rare visit to the UK from bass clarinettist Marco Colonna promises a special treat for jazz aficionados at Wakefield Jazz, as he joins forces with Wakefield’s favourite piano improviser, Alexander Hawkins. Together, they will explore and expand upon the unique musical legacy of Eric Dolphy, an avant-garde jazz pioneer whose innovative use of the bass clarinet left an indelible mark on modern jazz.
Colonna, known for his bold, expressive playing and deep technical prowess, brings a fresh perspective to Dolphy’s challenging compositions, while Hawkins, with his unpredictable yet masterful improvisational style, provides the perfect counterpart.
Their duet promises to be an exciting blend of virtuosity and creative freedom, pushing the boundaries of traditional jazz in homage to Dolphy’s visionary work. This collaboration offers a rare opportunity to hear two contemporary jazz innovators in an intimate setting, reinterpreting the works of a jazz icon while adding their own distinctive touches.
