About

If you’re a big fan of nature and like to get out into the great outdoors, you’ll love RSPB Fairburn Ings.

Nestled between Wakefield, York and Leeds on the outskirts of Castleford, is this lush green nature reserve offering an exciting place for families to create their own wildlife adventures.

Having transformed from an industrial coal face to a wild place over the last 60 years, RSPB Fairburn Ings provides a rich habitat for wildlife and birdlife throughout the year and is a great place for some serious wildlife watching.

Try your hand at pond dipping, join in with exciting events or just have a relaxing stroll around the woodland. RSPB Fairburn Ings is the perfect place for the whole family to get closer to nature.

Three main trails meander through woodland and grassland bringing you closer to birds and wildlife. Take a break from exploring the reserve and grab a warm drink from the Visitor Centre. Many of the trails are accessible to all.

Dogs are welcome at the reserve and facilities including a dog parking area and a dog bowl are available on site. Please follow the countryside code while on the trails. Only assistance dogs can be brought into the Visitor Centre.
