About
Following the huge success of Brassed Off, Vicar of Dibley and Dirty Dusting, Wakefield Little Theatre are delighted to bring their latest production to the Theatre Royal Wakefield stage – Calendar Girls!
Set against the backdrop of the North Yorkshire Dales, the story unfolds around a group of women from the tiny village of Knapely.
When Annies husband, John loses his battle with leukemia, Annie and her best friend Chris decide to raise funds for the local hospital.
Despite raised eyebrows from the other residents in the village, they manage to recruit (with varying levels of encouragement!) Cora, Celia, Ruth, and Jessie from the local Women’s Institute to create an ‘alternative’ calendar with the ladies posing nude!
The success of the calendar goes beyond their wildest dreams – and when the worlds media descend on this tiny village, friendships are put to the test under the strain of their newfound fame…
Written by Tim Firth, Calendar Girls is a heart-warming story based on real events.
