Explore the possibilities of camera-less photography with this four-week course, focused on experimental darkroom techniques. When we take pictures, we use our view finder to fix shapes and views in to our camera, when we process the film we fix shadows on light – sensitive paper. In this four-week course we will take the camera away and cast our own shapes, shadows and objects on to light – sensitive paper and use a range of processes to manipulate the images creating your own unique handmade prints.

Over the course of the four weeks you will learn how to use four key camera-less processes:

Ephemeral negatives.

All four processes encourage the rediscovery of everyday objects and/or found materials that leave room for imagination and make for interesting and unique handmade prints.

The four sessions will equip you with the knowledge needed to confidently continue explorations into each technique. Your tutor will support you in understanding the basic alchemy of each process and aid you in exploring the visual limits of the medium.

Each student will leave the sessions having made a series of camera-less photography prints, spanning across all four techniques.
