Are you ready for Castleford Roman Festival? Expect a full day of history-fuelled fun for the whole family!

Come and experience Castleford’s Roman heritage during a fun family day on Saturday 18 June. Explore a roman-themed market with demonstrations and activities such as roman toy making, science experiments and pottery throwing.

Pavement street art will come to life in real time, with a roman themed motif in a mosaic style, while history buffs can find out more about the town’s rich history thanks to the Roman Castleford Trail guided tour.

Take pictures at our dress-up photo booth in the indoor market. Plus street entertainment will keep you busy all day with story tellers and centurion walkabouts involving children in fun roman drills and activities.

Fancy becoming an archaeologist? Now’s your chance to give it a try! The Artificial Dig (run by Pontefract’s Young Archaeologists Club) will give kids the chance to try their hand at digging up the past. Children will be able to dress up as an archaeologist, dig for artefacts and learn about the tools and benefits of archaeology.

And don’t forget to visit the town’s library and museum who will be welcoming guests to a host of activities including trails, workshops and the opportunity to handle real objects from the Roman era!
