About

The Art House presents Hidden, a collaborative project by Charles Fox and Prum Sisaphantha (Pantha) exploring personal and collective memory through the lens of photography. The work is rooted in Pantha’s journey through the Khmer Rouge era, a brutal communist regime that ruled Cambodia from 1975 to 1979. During this time, she carried over 90 family photographs in the pockets of her dress—precious fragments of her history that remained hidden through years of upheaval.

This body of work serves as both a record of Pantha’s journey and an evolving artefact, shaped by her ongoing dialogue with Fox. At the heart of the exhibition is a book, its cover crafted from the dress that once held her hidden photographs. The book unfolds along a line traced by a GPS recording of Pantha’s retraced route. As she revisited these landscapes, she documented her reflections in Khmer, Cambodia’s dominant language, which have since been translated into English. More than just a narrative of her experiences, the book reflects the concealment of photographs during the Khmer Rouge era, with parts of the images deliberately obscured in response to the complex political history of the time.

Through Hidden, Fox and Pantha present a deeply personal yet universally resonant exploration of memory, loss, and survival. The exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the ways in which history is preserved, concealed, and rediscovered through images.
