About
Calling all future chemists!
Did you know that there are so many amazing colours that can be created from plants?
Join the Pontefract Castle team for a series of workshops to investigate natural dyes, inks and stains. Be inspired by the medieval garden and the plants that were grown there in the past. Try a new technique in every session!
These STEM workshops are funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
7 April 2025: Discover how natural stains and food colours from plants can be used to create patterns on eggs and paper.
27 May 2025: Investigate science by learning about acids and bases using a natural Ph indicator, including experimenting on fabric and paper (turmeric and red cabbage).
Further sessions in August 2025 will be available to book at a later date
*At 10am on each date there is a relaxed SEND session of this workshop.
SEND groups are always welcome at all sessions, but the team are also running these SEND sessions for visitors who benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere.
For ages 5+, booking required.
