About
Join Wakefield Civic Society for a walk exploring the art and sculpture visible in and around the city centre.
You don’t have to go to a gallery to see art and sculpture! Just walking around the city centre, you can see all sorts of artwork from specially commission sculptures, statures, monuments and decorative architectural details.
On this walk, you will see details you might never have noticed and help you to discover some of the intriguing artwork that is visible just by strolling around Wakefield’s streets – and sometimes looking up.
The walk is based on the Wakefield Civic Society’s book “Wakefield: City of Sculpture and Public Art” published in 2019. All participants will receive a free copy of the book (pictured above) which usually sells for £3.50.
Walks will generally be over level ground but there are some kerbs and some of the street surfaces are uneven. Sensible footwear is advised.
The walk is one of Wakefield Civic Society’s Heritage Open Days events and is also a contribution to Our Year – Wakefield District 2024.
