This Summer, Open to the Public and Wakefield Council are recruiting a troop of young Eco Warriors to help protect our planet.

Brand new Eco Warrior Kits created by Open to the Public and funded by Wakefield Council for their Festival of the Earth, will help teach children about some of the biggest climate issues we’re facing through facts and fun creative activities. A 1000 kits will be distributed across Wakefield district, teaching children about the benefits of wind energy whilst they make their own mini wind turbine to understand the power of the wind, and the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing whilst repurposing toilet roll tubes as binoculars to watch nature with.

To celebrate the launch of the kits this Summer, Open to the Public are running free family workshops at Pontefract Castle on Saturday 14th and 21st August and Anglers Country Park in the new visitor centre on Saturday 7th and 28th August, 4th September. Together families can create their own mini windmill, binoculars and butterfly masks with the help of the Open to the Public Team.

There will also be free kits for you to collect from Pontefract Castle and Anglers Country Park
