The Moorthorpe Music Academy present Eyesore & The Jinx in South Elmsall!
Liverpool’s favourite fidgety trio return with their first new single since we weren’t allowed to leave our (rented) homes. ‘An Ideas Man’, out on 7th March, tells the story of a greedy landlord, unfortunately many of us are far too familiar with. The single was recorded in the Summer of 2022 at Yellowbird Studio (Wirral) with producer and mixer Daniel Fox (Gilla Band) at the helm.
“Inspired by the post-pandemic explosion of #propertytok, ‘An Ideas Man’ is about the cult of landlordism and a parasitic ideology which has become pervasive in its wake. It’s about exploitation masquerading as philanthropy and the pursuit of a passive income which has become celebrated rather than shamed. In short, it’s about how much I hate landlords.” – Josh Miller, Eyesore & The Jinx
The band have also announced the release of a 7” single featuring ‘An Ideas Man’ along with new track ‘Do What You Love’ which will be out on Friday 5th May (all going well with the pressing plant).
Eyesore & The Jinx have kicked off their 2023 live activity with an appearance at Dark Arts in Leeds in February alongside Egyptian Blue, Human Interest and Divorce. They recently announced a headline show at the Kazimier Stockroom in Liverpool on Tuesday 21st March with Scott Lavene and Frog Dylan assisting them on support duties. Alongside this, Eyesore are in the process of announcing festival appearances and support slots with their own shows coming up in the not too distant future.
‘The Exile Parlour EP’ (their debut EP and last significant release) came out in the midst of the pandemic, which scuppered live plans across the UK and EU to support the release. It was recorded and promoted thanks to funding from PRS Foundation’s PPL Momentum Accelerator fund for Liverpool bands/artists. Eyesore were able to showcase their EP with a live online performance from a closed FUTURE YARD in Birkenhead in late 2020, which was viewed by over 1200 fans. A successful crowdfunding campaign led to a vinyl pressing of their EP, released by Eggy Records in January 2021.
They spent the latter end of 2021 and much of 2022 writing new material and tightening it up on stage with some choice gigs supporting acts like Bodega and DITZ. While the band stepped away from releasing music to continue songwriting and demoing, previous single ‘Leisure Time’ carried on picking up support behind their backs. After receiving a KEXP song of the day, BBC 6Music support and favourable features from Stereogum amongst others, it was more recently picked up by Shameless US (Showtime) and somehow managed to appear in a number of Spotify editorial playlists at the end of 2022.
2023 feels like a fresh start for the band, with lots of recorded music under their belts, this first new single ‘An Ideas Man’ serves as just a taster of many things to come.
