About
Create a life-sized self-portrait all about you and say “This is me”! This workshop is based on a real art project by artist Helen Chadwick and school children in Newcastle in 1983. Children made life-sized self-portraits using collage and drawings to express who they were and how they saw themselves.
At the same time, Helen Chadwick was working on her own self-portrait, Ego Geometria Sum (1983), which you can see in the exhibition. Just like the children, she used her body and experiences to tell a story through art.
In the galleries
Visit Ego Geometria Sum (1983) in the Helen Chadwick: Life Pleasures exhibition, exploring the shapes, ideas and stories in this work of art.
In the Clore Learning studios
Work together with your family to draw the outline of your body onto a large piece of paper. Then collage and draw with colourful art materials to tell the story of you!
