About

Sitting on the banks of the River Aire in Castleford, Queen’s Mill (formerly known as Allinson’s Mill) is the world’s largest stone grinding flour mill, with twenty pairs of stones.

According to the West Yorkshire Archaeological Society there has been a working mill by the river Aire in Castleford as far back as Roman times, and it can be stated with some confidence that flour has been produced on the site of Queen’s Mill for an almost unbroken period of more than 900 years. During medieval times the mills were used mainly for milling wheat, just as it continues to do to this day.

Now the mill is looked after by the Castleford Heritage Trust. They are open Monday to Friday and offer a wide range of exciting activities and events for all the community.

The mill is home to the Queen’s Mill Tearooms, Yorkshire Craft Beers, Recent Beans coffee roaster, Riverside Paint a Pot, artists studios and lots more. This is also a wonderful venue for your meeting, conference or celebratory event with a full bar and catering service. Keep a lookout for new exciting announcements.
