Barbara Phipps, who lives in Walton near Wakefield, has spent many years researching the life and legacy of renowned naturalist Charles Waterton. Her highly regarded book, Charles Waterton: Creator of the First Nature Reserve, was published in 2019 and explores his pioneering work at Walton Hall, widely recognised as the world’s first nature reserve.
In this engaging talk at Pontefract Town Hall, Barbara shares insights into Waterton’s fascinating life – from his adventurous travels in South America to his groundbreaking conservation efforts at Walton Hall, where he created a protected sanctuary for wildlife in the early 19th century.
