About

Come and join Best Yorkshire Boating for a jam-packed day cruising along the spectacular Calder and Hebble Navigation, from Stanley Ferry to Horbury.

Experience the beauty of the Calder and Hebble Canal with a full day cruise aboard the historic Apollo. Built in 1929 Apollo is a fine example of how a working narrow boat should be. Enjoy a full day of Yorkshire’s waterways with a small group of fellow canal enthusiasts. This is a pre-planned, ticketed cruise with up to 12 passengers, so everyone gets a relaxed, unhurried experience while still feeling part of something special.

Bring Your Own Food & Drink

Pack a picnic, bring your favourite drinks (alcohol is welcome!), or a few treats for a scenic lunch on board. Whether it’s fizz, sandwiches, or a canalside grazing board, this is your day — make it your own.

Relax, Cruise, and Stop Along the Way

The route is thoughtfully planned for a full day of gentle cruising along some of Yorkshire’s most picturesque canals. You might moor up at a cosy pub for lunch or enjoy a scenic spot for a riverside picnic — all part of the experience, without any stress.

Get Hands-On with Boating

Fancy trying a bit of canal life yourself? Under the guidance of the friendly skipper and crew, you can take the tiller, operate locks, and learn a little about how a traditional narrow boat handles. Or simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the stories and scenery — it’s your choice.

Along the way, you’ll hear snippets of Yorkshire’s canal history and working boat traditions, adding a touch of heritage to a thoroughly laid-back day on the water.

Perfect for a day out with friends, family, or anyone curious about life on the canals — a full day of gentle cruising, BYO treats, and good company on a historic boat.

A 1 hour rest stop will be arranged on route, but feel free to bring your own food and drink.

* Please note: this is a one way journey to The Navigation Inn, Calder Grove, so your own transport back to Stanley Ferry will need to be arranged. You will be close to public transport links at each end, and the team will support all guests with arrangements.
