Join the Portobello Community Centre for some artsy fun with Gelli Printing! These sessions are perfect for families, but absolutely everyone is welcome—whether you’re an experienced artist or just fancy trying something new.

Start the session with some delicious food (because creativity needs fuel, right?), and then dive into the colourful world of Gelli printing. Expect to get messy, make something beautiful, and maybe even discover a new hobby.

Gelli printing is a form of monoprinting that uses a gelatin-based plate to create prints without the need for a traditional printing press. The Gelli plate, which is soft, flexible, and reusable, allows artists to create intricate and unique prints by layering paints, inks, or other materials on its surface.

The process usually involves rolling or brushing paint onto the Gelli plate, placing various objects (like leaves, stencils, or textured fabrics) on top to create patterns, and then pressing paper onto the plate to transfer the image. Because each print is made individually, no two prints are exactly alike, making Gelli printing a fun and creative activity suitable for all ages.

This printing technique is popular in mixed media art, art journaling, and as an accessible way for people of all skill levels to experiment with printmaking. The sessions with Shazia at the Portobello Community Centre are a great opportunity to learn this creative art form in a friendly, inclusive environment.

Sessions are every Wednesday, from 16th September, for 6 weeks.
