About the workshop facilitator: Jack
Jack is an experienced woodworker and re-enactor. He has been recreating aspects of medieval English life as a historical re-enactor for over 25 years. He has a particular interest in the everyday life of medieval people. This, combined with a love of crafting, has led him to explore the skills people used 500 years ago to make common items for their home. He has tried his hand at everything, from dining tables and chests made from seasoned timber to “treen” items like spoons, bowls and utensils.
Jack loves the personal and physical aspect of carving, going from an unassuming piece of wood and working it down with hand tools to something both attractive and functional. He is inspired by the spirit of the arts and crafts movement. He also loves to share his knowledge and skills with others and help them to find the same kind of enjoyment in these crafts.
