Hear the story of Herbert Smith who started work aged 10 at Glasshoughton Pit and rose to be the leader of the Miners’ Federation of Great Britain at the time of the 1926 General Strike.
Herbert Smith was born in the Great Preston Poorhouse and was buried in Castleford Cemetery. He rose to be the Leader of the Miners Federation of Great Britain at the time of the 1926 General Strike. Come and hear about his life and times. Talk followed by refreshments.
This event will be part of the Heritage Open Day events being held by Castleford Civic Society.
