Step outside and be inspired by the changing of the seasons through free creative nature sessions inspired by Fryston Country Trails.
No experience needed, each session is guided by industry specialists.
Workshops take place at Fryston Community Centre, 168 Wheldon Road, WF10 2QL.
Drawn To Nature
Tuesday 15 September, 10am – 12pm
Join artist Tony Wade for a chance to creatively document the plants and landscapes that can be found on the country park.
In this session you will explore Fryston Country Trails and be introduced to a range of drawing materials and processes, with Tony as your guide. Within the session you will have the opportunity to create your own art inspired by the natural areas you explored.
This is an outdoor activity which includes a short walk, so please dress accordingly.
Drawn To Heritage
Tuesday 15 September, 1pm – 3pm
Join artist Tony Wade as he leads a short walk to show how nature has transformed these former colliery sites.
Using a range of drawing materials provided, you will create your own art showing how nature and industry have combined to create these unique landscapes.
This is an outdoor activity which includes a short walk, so please dress accordingly.
Mosaic Making
Friday 18 September, 10am – 12pm
In this session, you will explore how to create beautiful artwork using mosaics. This will involve cutting tiles of a variety of colour and piecing them together to create your own unique piece of art. You will be able to use the surrounding Country Park as inspiration for your work.
Pyrography
Friday 25 September, 10am – 12pm
The technique of pyrography involves using special equipment, similar to a soldering iron, to burn designs into wood. In this session you will be able to use the inspiration of the surrounding Country Park to create your own artwork. These pieces of artwork are a brilliant way to discover the hidden artist within us.
Foraging Skills
Friday 9 October, 10am – 12pm
This is a free session for people to learn and develop skills in natural foraging, ran by foraging specialist Edulis Wild Food.
Learn which plants that can be found in your local green spaces are safe to eat, what preparation they may need and what other purposes they may have. The session includes a slow walk around the country park, with plenty of opportunity to identify species, sketch, make notes and ask questions.
Art in Nature
Wednesday 21 October, 11am – 2pm
This session offers participants time to slow down, notice the landscape and respond through accessible, process-led creative activities.
Participants will be guided on a gentle nature connection walk encouraging mindful engagement with the local environment, inviting participants to explore seasonal changes, colour, texture, pattern, natural forms and collect fallen leaves etc.
Once settled in our outdoor space, participants begin with a series of short, guided mixed media and printmaking activities inspired by their observations. These accessible exercises introduce creative techniques while encouraging playful experimentation and personal expression. You will have the opportunity to make your own pieces to take home.
The session will be held outdoors on the country park, including a short walk, so please dress accordingly.
Cyanotype & Macramé
Thursday 29 October, 10am – 12pm
Cyanotype is a process that involves using photographic printing paper that reacts to sunlight. Using natural materials found on the Country Park, will will be able to produce intricate outlines using the power of sunlight. This technique allows you to create beautiful pieces of intertwining natural art.
Macramé is the knotting and tying of cord into decorative or functional patterns using only your hands, without needles or hooks. You will be able to create your own hanging plant pot to display in your home.
Needle Felting
Wednesday 11 November, 11am – 2pm
Join Eve from Nature Felt Crafts, who will be showing you how to create your own art using the technique of needle felting.
Come along to a relaxing and creative workshop where you’ll learn the beautiful art of needle felting and create your own unique landscape picture. Using soft, colourful wool fibres and simple felting techniques, you’ll transform layers of wool into a stunning scene inspired by nature.
