About

Explore how colour is extracted from natural sources like plants, flowers and vegetables on a one-day natural dyeing workshop at The Art House.

Create your own fabric swatch collection by experimenting with natural colours from sources such as plants, flowers and vegetables. You will use a variety of materials (cotton, silk, wool) to prepare for the natural dyeing process.

Get stuck in exploring the vast range of colours that you can create using various processes and techniques such as dye baths, with step-by-step guidance from your teaching artist. The skills you gain from this workshop will allow you to continue developing your dyeing practice at home.

Who is the workshop for?

This course is suitable for adults who are curious about natural colour and natural dyeing techniques. Complete beginners are welcome to learn natural dyeing skills from scratch, as well as natural dyeing enthusiasts who would like a refresher to improve their existing skills.

Do I need to bring anything?

We will provide a selection of textile material swatches and natural resources to make the dye baths from. If you have any small natural fabric pieces to try you may wish to bring these. You are also welcome to bring natural sources such as onion skins, avocado skins and stones, turmeric etc and if we have time during the workshop to try them we will do.

We recommend you wear clothes which can get dirty or bring an apron. Gloves will be provided. You also may like to bring a notebook or sketchbook with you to take notes and store your colour swatches.
