Light Up Wakefield Light Trail

Wandering is a brand-new piece by Amelia Kosminsky, using her unique dreamscape technique. Moving imperceptibly, images float to the surface, only to fade away, bringing new vistas to light looking across time and space.

Drawing from local archives and photographs, Wandering slowly reveals the character of Wakefield and its citizens over time. It reflects on Wakefield’s relationship to nature as the past heavy industry of coal mines and canals gives way to a gentler more rural future.

Ship of the Gods is inspired by the Norse myth of Skidbladnir, a magical shape-shifting vessel which could carry the gods and their equipment yet could be folded up small enough to fit inside a pocket.

Using 3D laser scanning technology, film, sound and lighting effects the artists have drawn on maritime culture artefacts to re-imagine Skidbladnir through the scanned forms of life size boats and ship models to create an ephemeral vessel of light, which like Skidbladnir can transform and be folded down to move to other places.

Ship of the Gods created by artists Heinrich & Palmer was originally commissioned by Absolutely Cultured.

A beautiful place in which we are free to experience joy and play without fear of judgement or error. An escape from the mundanity of everyday life and an opportunity to reflect on how societal pressures can strip us of the curiosities we enjoyed as a child.

Here reside the last living ferns of Mirchwood; an ancient mythical forest driven to extinction purely by being forgotten. As its stories stopped being told, its trees vanished one by one. Now all that remains is protected in an enchanted terrarium, a living shrine to the primordial wisdom of plant life.

Artist Laura Spark uses hand crafted models and stop motion animation to create this mythic ecosystem, bearing a message of hope and survival from another realm. The Relic acts as both a celebration and a warning – to never take nature’s irreplaceable magic for granted.

Styled in the theme of the 80’s and 90’s retro games and using the latest projection mapping and digital gaming technology, Light Art Creatives are converting a local building into a gaming platform!

Doors, windows and the walls themselves become an interactive part of each game, asteroids bounce off ledges, lasers ricochet from all angles and characters scale up the wall edges then jump from window sill to window sill.

‘Rever’, meaning ‘to dream’, is an immersive audio-visual piece utilising lighting equipment typically found on stage.

This work invites you on a journey into dreamscapes and into the realm of the subconscious mind. Greeting you with a cascading light waterfall, Rever guides you through a 3-minute vivid symphony of light and sound.

With an original score composed by Electronic Musician Henry Howe, the piece aims to invoke a raw sense of wonder and imagination.

The Public Dream is a poetic installation of drawing, light, and text. Developed during a two-week experimental residency in The Art House, the work invites you into an evolving space where dreams, archives, and speculative futures converge.

Drawing inspiration from The Art House’s historic building history as a library – a place of both illumination and imagination – Bolland is developing a wall-drawing, sculptural, and light installation exploring dreams, sci-fi, and speculative futures. Visitors can immerse themselves in the developing installation, where shifting light, colour, and text combine to create a poetic, speculative environment that blurs the line between archive, dream, and imagination.

Marbles is a giant and rotating marble run that plays with the exchange and connection between inner growth and outer expression. The luminous marble travels between these worlds with its two movements; the slow inside and upward movement, and the expressive outside movement. The rotating frame of the marble run pushes the marble upwards again, which gives the connection between these worlds. The different light patterns of the LED-strips represent the different processes of growth and expression.
