About

The Friends of Waterton’s Wall are pleased to announce their next lime mortar workshops. These workshops will offer volunteers an opportunity to practise traditional restoration skills. They will also raise awareness of the importance of a Grade II listed wall that was built with the sole purpose of providing protection to wildlife within the parkland in Charles Waterton’s estate. This parkland is known to be the first nature reserve in the world.

The workshop will be led by Mark Womersley. Mark has a national reputation having worked on many prestigious projects, such as the Great Hall, Lambeth Palace; Hammersmith Apollo, London; York Minster; York City Walls; as well as many internationally!

Workshop to include:

  • Working with Lime Mortar
  • An overview of the current state of the wall and the various types of remedial work required to repair, protect and preserve the wall
  • The importance / need for the use of lime mortar
  • Introduction to the various tools and how to use them
  • A demonstration of the various techniques

This Working with Lime Mortar Workshop is weather dependant. The nature of the workshop will take account of the weather forecast on the day.
