About
Step into the past with Empath Theatre CIC’s Costume Emporium Experience, a hands-on workshop celebrating Wakefield’s rich heritage.
Children and families will dress up as lords, ladies, and historical figures, guided by professional actors in playful storytelling and interactive theatre. Participants will meet iconic local personalities such as Mayoress Effie Crow, Dame Mary Bolles, and Lady Green, learning about their lives through engaging character play and movement.
The session encourages children to explore history creatively, using costumes, props, and improvisation to bring the past to life. It’s designed to be inclusive and accessible, with activities tailored to different ages and abilities. Families will work together to create short scenes, explore character traits, and reflect on how stories from the past connect to our lives today.
No prior experience is needed – just imagination and a sense of adventure. This workshop supports confidence-building, teamwork, and creative expression, while fostering pride in Wakefield’s local heritage.
This event is aimed at children aged 5 – 11 years old, accompanied by an adult.
