Enjoy a day of needle-felting and produce a beautiful needle-felted mouse holding a felt heart.

You will cover a range of basic needle felting skills working in 3-D, learning how to shape the wool, join elements, add different colours, produce a firm felt and add finishing touches.

At the end of the day, you will not only take home your little mouse, but also your needle-felting equipment and the skills and understanding to create other animals, real and imaginary.

Helen Riddle

Helen Riddle is an artist and feltmaker working from her studio here at The Art House Wakefield. She creates bodies of work for exhibition, most recently, “The Doffer and the Fancy: Re-imagining the Machine”, a collection of large sculptural pieces inspired by the textile machinery at Leeds Industrial Museum. In her commercial work, Helen combines wet- and needle-felting techniques with free motion embroidery and hand stitch to produce a range of items, both functional and decorative, from pots, brooches and collectible figures to larger artworks. Helen is a qualified teacher and has a City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Felt-making. She was awarded the City and Guilds Medal for Excellence in Constructed Textiles 2014. Helen exhibits and sells her work widely as well as delivering workshops for The National Trust, The Royal Horticultural Society, The Hepworth Wakefield and The Art House.

Who is the Workshop for?

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners in needle felting techniques. You'll be guided through the process in a step by step way to create your own mouse figurine.

Do I Need to Bring Anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided in a kit for you on the day. The equipment will be yours to take home at the end of the workshop so you can continue to practise the techniques you've learned.

Course Booking Terms and Conditions

Workshop and course bookings can be cancelled and refunded up until 7 days before the scheduled start date. Our workshops support the work we do as a charity, and because materials and equipment are ordered in advance, we regret that refunds cannot be offered less than 7 days before the workshop date. Please note that Eventbrite's booking fee is non-refundable.

Bookings cannot be transferred between courses however bookings can be transferred to another person in the event that you are unable to attend on the day.

In the event that The Art House needs to cancel a workshop for any reason, for example due to tutor illness or if lockdown measures are put back in place your ticket will be refunded in full.
