Recommended for people from 14 to 25 years old

Come along for an evening dedicated to the spoken word, from the highly individual voices of young people from Wakefield and beyond. In association with the Poetry Society, this is a chance for developing poets to share their work with a friendly audience, or just listen to others who share their passion for this form of literature. Open to any writer regardless of experience.

The event will be headlined by poet Emily Dee. She is from Leeds, and has just graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Birmingham. She was commended in The Foyle Young Poets Award 2014, and a winner in 2016. She was also accepted to attend the Tower Poetry Summer School writing retreat 2018. A member of The Writing Squad from 2018, she is now a squad graduate, and continues to attend workshops. Writing about family and home, she is inspired by her surroundings and the Northern poetic voice. In her spare time, she enjoys ensemble singing, and volunteering with adults with disabilities through Phab UK.

If you would like to perform but are unable to attend in person, we encourage you to sign up as an online performer. We’ll be in touch to ask you to send in a recording of your performance. This will be displayed on the night, and all online performers will be able to stream in as audience on the night to watch the work of other performers!
