A rare trip out of Worcestershire to Wakefield Jazz by the increasingly lauded septuagenarian sax player Paul Dunmall with his current regular quartet of dedicated improvisers, all leaders in their own right.

Widely recognised as one of the most uncompromising and pioneering reed players on the international jazz scene, Dunmall has worked with different ensembles in the US and UK, including a stint with the pianist Alice Coltrane in the 1970s (as well as Johnny “Guitar” Watson), and over twenty years playing in the incomparable quartet Mujician, formed with Keith Tippett, Paul Rogers and Tony Levin.

Inspired by the Coltranes (both John and Alice), Paul Dunmall has carved out a vast body of work with leading improvising musicians across the world, and with a recent burst of releases on the Sheffield-based Discus label, including November’s Bright Light A Joyous Celebration.
