About
Inspired by the piano-less trios of Sonny Rollins, the QOW Trio — tenor saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan, double bassist Eddie Myer, and drummer Spike Wells — delivers robust, chordless jazz full of melody, swing, and daring improvisation. Their fearless approach blends the deep jazz tradition with adventurous free improvisation, creating performances that are both thrilling and heartfelt.
Drummer Spike Wells, celebrating his 80th birthday and 65 years at the forefront of UK jazz, provides the driving force that has powered legends from Tubby Hayes to Stan Getz. Alongside him, rising star Riley Stone-Lonergan dazzles with imaginative compositions and bold improvisation, while Eddie Myer anchors the trio with his rich, resonant bass tone.
The trio’s critically acclaimed albums include QOW Trio (2021), a Jazzwise Critics’ Choice, and The Hold Up, described by BBC Music Magazine as “a stunning achievement” and awarded four stars by The Times and The Scotsman. Their latest release, The Rule of Three, takes the trio to new creative heights, exploring everything from bebop to calypso, from Strayhorn to free jazz, delivering surprises at every turn with sincerity, conviction, and infectious energy.
