Wakefield City Centre
Rhubarb lovers rejoice! Wakefield’s celebration of its most famous vegetable returns to paint the city pink for three days from 25-27 February. The Rhubarb Festival is one of the first food and drink festivals in the national calendar. In 2022 it promises to start things off with a bang!
With an entirely new programme of chef demos curated by Yorkshire Food Guide to help you cook up a (rhubarb-based) storm in your own kitchen, and a gin experience showcasing a whole host of mouth-watering cocktails, there will be something to suit everyone’s taste.
It wouldn’t be the Rhubarb Festival without it! The all-important food and drink market also returns with over 60 chalets where you can sample and purchase local and regional delights.
There will also be a range of street food vendors serving up tasty food to eat as you shop. If you’re looking to wash down your street food with a refreshing drink, then you’re in luck! The Rhu-Bar is making a triumphant return with a refreshing selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
As they sample the delights of the market, families will also be able to enjoy gardening, growing and foraging workshops, as well as lively street entertainment and music.
Friday: Ruby Rhubarb and Gardener’s Question Time
Saturday: Wakefield Morris Dancers
Sunday: The Liver Cottage Mobile Kitchen
Venues all across Wakefield will be opening their doors to celebrate. Look out for a Vegan Fayre, Antiques and Collectibles Fayre, live music, arts and crafts, family activities, face painting and lots more.
Finally, extend your stay with the all-new Rhubarb Trail taking place around the city. This gourmet trail showcases restaurants and bars that will be putting on rhubarb-themed food and drink throughout the weekend.
