About

Igniting stages with irresistible energy and vibrant Latin grooves, ¡Ritmo Caliente! is a powerhouse Cuban-infused Latin jazz sextet formed from the rhythm section of northern salsa legends Orchestra Mambo International.

The group celebrates the centenary of Latin jazz pioneer Cal Tjader (1925–2025), whose ground-breaking fusion of Mambo, Cha Cha, jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms defined an era. Tjader’s chart-topping albums — including Soul Sauce and La Onda Va Bien — brought the vibraphone to the heart of Latin jazz, and Ritmo Caliente pays vibrant tribute to his legacy.

Led by John Settle (vibes) and featuring Andrzej Baranek (piano), Josh Cavanagh (bass), Jack McCarthy (timbales), Sam Bell (congas), and Camilo Ochoa (bongos/campana), the band unites some of the UK and South America’s finest Latin musicians.

Fresh from appearances at Glastonbury, BBC 6 Music, and with nationwide airplay for their chart-topping singles, ¡ Caliente! delivers a thrilling mix of rhythm, sophistication, and dancefloor fire — an electrifying celebration of Latin jazz past and present, all in the welcoming surrounds of Wakefield Jazz.
