About
Join The Curator for a fun-filled journey through the strange, spooky and wonderfully rotten history of Wakefield!
Created especially for children and families, this one-hour walking adventure brings the city’s past to life through exciting stories, mysterious legends, comedy, magic and plenty of audience participation.
Along the way, discover tales of Wakefield’s witches, meet the story of Old Billy the Bear, hear about daring highwaymen, horrible histories, strange inventions, mischievous ghosts and some of the unusual characters who once walked Wakefield’s streets.
But can you work out which tales are history, which are mystery… and which might simply be rumour?
This is a family-friendly adventure with spooky fun but no terrifying scares or graphic stories. Young explorers will have the chance to help The Curator, take part in the tales and prove they have what it takes to become an Official Junior Curator!
The adventure begins outside Wakefield Library and Museum, near Create Café, and finishes near Merlin’s Magic Shop on The Springs – the perfect magical ending to your journey through Wakefield’s rotten past!
The Rotten Histories Tour of Wakefield is approximately one hour and is recommended for children aged 5–12 and their families. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Junior Curator certificates included.
