About
Enjoy a walk round our way from the same group of passionate women who brought you the Westgate Chapel ‘Catacomb Tours’, sharing the stories, heritage and history of Wakefield.
Dream Time Creative bring their expertise, passion and love of a good costume to the streets of Wakefield for your delight and delectation. Please join the team on their ‘Footsteps from the Chapel’ tour to hear some incredible tales to amuse, delight and shock.
Meet at Pemberton House on Westgate where the tour will begin with tales of aristocracy, wealth and drinking and, as you travel, you’ll find out about dark tales of slavery, death by an imprisoned bear, tunnels, attempted assignations, animal rights activists, chartists, diarists and abolitionists.
Your tour will start promptly so please aim to arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start time. You will find the start on Westgate outside Pemberton House, opposite the (currently closed) Elephant and Castle public house. You can also find the location using what3words sang.sings.fields
This is an outdoor event and will take place whatever the weather, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for city walking.
This new event is the first in a series of walks and talks and it’s all being done to raise money for blue plaques for women. Did you know that each new plaque costs £700? There are currently 31 dedicated female names on Wakefield which makes us the top city in the UK to recognise our Forgotten Women BUT there are lots more women whose stories need to be told and acknowledged. Hear about some of them on the tour and help us to raise the much needed funds.
Learn more about the Forgotten Women of Wakefield project and see how important it is that women are recognised for their achievements, and help Wakefield to become the first city with true blue plaque parity. Raising funds for Blue Plaques for Women.
