About
Come and experience a brand new heritage walk revealing never before heard stories of Forgotten Women from Wakefield who shaped the landscape at Heath.
The Round Our Way volunteers have teamed up with the I Love Heath Common campaign group to offer this collaborative event, taking place on the day of the Heath Kite Festival.
Join this fascinating heritage walk which takes you into the heart of Heath’s herstory, her secrets, her artists, her writers, her engineers, her architecture and her landscape. Learn how women like Dame Mary Bolles, Lady Green, Eliza Eve Gleadall, Marion Walker and Louise-Adelaide de Bourbon Conde were inspired by the scenery and how their legacies in the field of art, botany, engineering, education and health, continue locally, nationally and internationally, to the present day.
This is an outdoor event and will take place whatever the weather. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for rural walking. Some of the route may be on uneven paths or tracks.
Meet at the front entrance to the Kings Arms public house at Heath Common, the walk with start and end here.
The walk will begin promptly and so please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.
The walk around Heath will last approximately 90 minutes, but walk times do vary by 15 / 20 minutes either way, to allow sufficient time for photos and questions and ensure no one is ever rushed between stopping points.
