About

The Round Our Way team is delighted to offer an opportunity to join this heritage walk to follow the Louisa Fennell trail around Wakefield. Compare the views of the past, as painted by Louisa, to the scenes of the city today.

You will have seen the panels around the city painted by Victorian artist Louisa Fennell which show how Wakefield looked back in the early 1860’s. These are based on sketches she did as a child and, if you have stopped to read the panels you will know some of the stories linked to the history of each picture.

But there is so much more to tell. Like, how Louisa’s family were linked to the Wakefield Blind Society and the Waterton’s of Walton Hall and how her sketch of the Bakehouse links her to Florence Beaumont, a political figure on the national stage. Join Sarah Cobham and the team and follow in the footsteps of Wakefield’s most enigmatic artist and discover more about herstory.

This is an outdoor event and will take place whatever the weather. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for city walking. Meet at the front entrance to Wakefield Cathedral in the precinct. Arrive a few minutes before the scheduled start time.

The walk will last approximately 90 minutes, but walk times do vary by 15 /20 minutes either way to allow sufficient time for photos and questions.
