As part of the Festival of the Earth, WX (Wakefield Former Food Hall) will be transformed into a science lab for families to take part in. The free one hour workshops will engage families in a fun way and highlight environmental issues and the impact of climate change. The hands-on workshops and stunning visuals, combined with enthusiastic workshop facilitators bring the spark that will inspire and engage the next generation of scientists. Suitable for ages 5+.

* Renewi – Extracting Natural Materials - This workshop encourages us to explore where everyday products come from and the impact that this has on our natural world. We often talk about how to dispose of different types of rubbish and how to recycle or dispose of them, but where did they actually come from in the first place? Trace the journey of the metals that we throw away. Take a look at how we extract metals from the ground in a real extraction experiment and learn about how the environment is changed every time we extract precious natural resources.

* Renewi – Let’s Sort It Out game- Think you know what rubbish goes in what bin? Test your knowledge against other teams with our fast pace rubbish sorting game.

* Lab Rascals – Dry Ice Clouds demonstrate how easily carbon dioxide dissolves in water., PH Indicator and dry ice demonstrating ocean acidification and the impact of carbon dioxide on the environment. The session will finish with a large dry ice cloud demonstration for a big wow factor finish.

* Bubble Inc - Our Science Shows combine entertainment with education to make an informative and also truly wondrous bubble show. We demonstrate a mixture of as many of the scientific principles that can be found by studying soap bubbles as we can.
