St Joseph’s RC Church
A guide will be on hand to talk about the church and to assist with your enjoyment of its wonderful interior.
St Joseph Roman Catholic church was built in 1806 (pre-dating the Catholic Emancipation Act by over 20 years), has 20th century alterations and is a Grade II* listed building.
It has a minimalistic exterior, however this belies the ornate internal architecture with its acanthus balusters and ceiling decoration, whilst the east end of church has segmental-arched sanctuary apse with pilasters with fluted capitals and round-arched panels.
There is a nearby public carpark, for satnav directions use WF8 4AA. Pedestrian access from Pontefract town centre is via a ramped footbridge off Liquorice Way, crossing the dual carriageway. Entrance and Exit to the church is by the door at the end of the walkway, next to the school.
