About

Enjoy a talk by local railway expert, Peter Cookson, on how the railway came to Pontefract. Part of Heritage Open Days 2024.

This talk will tell the story of the development of Pontefract’s railways from the very first public meeting in Pontefract Town Hall in September 1844 to the time of their maximum extent later in the century, but will not deal with their later demise.  The presentation will make extensive use of maps and will deal with interesting unsuccessful projects, as well as the lines eventually built.

1 hour talk plus light refreshments afterwards, donations welcome to cover the costs.
