About

Join Pontefract Civic Society on a walk around Newgate and Crab Hill to consider the past, and then into St Joseph’s RC Church.

The tour will cross Jubilee Way via the footbridge and consider the changes to this area which was Tanshelf township, over the past 150 years, which was originally separate to Pontefract Borough Cooperation.

Hear about a number of important buildings across the centuries, which were important aspects of the townships life and eventually that of Pontefract.

After the walk from Pontefract Civic Society, a  church guide will be on hand to talk about St Joseph’s RC Church and to assist with your enjoyment of its wonderful interior.

Booking is helpful, though walk-ins accepted.
