About

Come and enjoy this opportunity to hear Joseph Haydn’s choral masterpiece, The Creation, sung by the joint choirs of Wakefield Festival Chorus and Pontefract Choral Society.  The orchestral accompaniment includes a string quartet, tympany and the Binns organ, built in 1894, and considered one of the finest organs in Yorkshire played by Shaun Turnbull. Soloists are Soprano – Lucy Relins, Tenor – Robin Lowery-Morton and Bass – David Cane.

The concert  takes place in the historic church of St Giles Church, Pontefract,  a church which has stood at the heart of the town since the 12th century and was significantly enlarged in Haydn’s lifetime to include the landmark tower.

The Creation re-tells this familiar story, from book of Genesis, with musical drama and colour.

Tickets are £12 on the door.
