About
David Hardcastle, a retired West Yorkshire Police constable with 20 years of service, presents this fascinating and interactive talk exploring over 120 years of policing history. Now a dedicated volunteer at a local police museum, David brings a wealth of first-hand experience and knowledge to the evening.
The talk charts the evolution of policing from the late 19th century through to the modern day, offering insight into how the role, equipment and responsibilities of the police have changed over time. Through stories, historical context and personal reflections, David paints a vivid picture of life on the force across different eras.
A highlight of the evening is the chance to get hands-on with a remarkable collection of authentic artefacts. Items dating back to the 1880s will be on display, covering the Victorian period, both World Wars and into the 21st century. Visitors can explore an impressive range of police uniforms, helmets and hats, and even experience a working police radio from the 1980s.
