About
Are you aged 16 to 25? Do you want to be part of a collaborative, evolving art installation?
Would you like to learn and practice textile art techniques?
Wakefield Museums and Castles have commissioned a textile artist to celebrate the story of the 1933 Wakefield Pageant – and she wants your help!
Louise Goult will be working on her installation for Wakefield One in July and August. During this time, Louise is offering a number of free, drop-in workshops for young people to get involved with the artwork.
You can learn new techniques like basic dressmaking, hand embroidery, research skills and make your mark on the final outcome for the project. No experience is required!
The installation will include a dress inspired by the Spirit of Wakefield from 1933 (pictured). She holds a scroll full of information about local industry. She will be surrounded by your 3D textiles and banners featuring your hopes for the future.
The workshops will be running on the following days – you can come by at any time, for as little or as long as you like:
- Wednesday 17 July, between 1pm and 6:30pm
- Wednesday 24 July, between 1pm and 6:30pm
- Thursday 25 July, between 1pm and 6:30pm
- Tuesday 13 August, between 1pm and 6:30pm
These sessions are all in the Learning Zone inside Wakefield Library. This is one floor up from Wakefield Museum. You can ask the staff at the Museum or the Library if you are not sure where it is.
