The Butterfly Effect is an artwork by tony Wade and consists of 5 installations across 5 libraries in the Wakefield District and is an exploration and celebration of the positive steps everyone can take, individually and collectively, to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact.

The hundreds of floating paper butterflies have been inspired by the term made famous by the American mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz, who suggested that a small change can make much bigger changes happen hence his question: "Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"

On display in Airedale, Horbury, Normanton, Pontefract and South Elmsall Libraries.
