Parking

There is onsite parking at Pontefract Park  on the event field. There will be signage in place and parking attendant staff on hand to assist

The play park car park will be reserved for Blue Badge Holders only.

It is expected to be a busy during Wakefield Armed Forces Day so we recommend car-sharing or using public transport where you can.

There are numerous off-street and on-street car parking spaces in Pontefract Town Centre.

Train

Pontefract Tanshelf Station

It is an approximately 15 minute walk from Pontefract Tanshelf Train Station to Pontefract Park.

It is an approximately 32 minute walk from Pontefract Baghill Train Station to Pontefract Park.

It is an approximately 33 minute walk from Pontefract Monkhill Train Station to Pontefract Park.

Bus

Pontefract Bus Station 

Pontefract Bus Station is an approximately 29 minute walk from Pontefract Park, although there are bus stops near Pontefract Park.

The Events Team at Wakefield Council are passionate about providing an enjoyable experience that is accessible to all.  

Our friendly team of staff, security, first aiders and contractors will be on hand to offer any assistance throughout the event.  You can find them in either Hi-Vis or Wakefield Council Uniform, look for ‘EVENT STAFF’ on their backs. 

Accessible Parking

The play park car park will be reserved for Blue Badge Holders only.

All other park users will need to park in the event field parking. There will be signage in place and parking attendant staff on hand to assist

Accessible Toilets

Accessible port-a-loos will be available onsite at the event.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are welcomed to all areas of the event.

Changing Places

Unfortunately, there is no Changing Places at the event site.

The closes Changing Places is at Frasers Plus Designer Outlet Leeds (formerly Junction 32) (Changing Places Toilets (changing-places.org)). 

Site Description

Pontefract Park is a spacious, open green field divided into two levels, with no paved footpaths.

The two levels are mostly flat, with a gentle incline connecting the lower level field to the upper level field.

• Lower Level field: Main area, craft market, community stalls, and activity stands for the military, blue light services and cadets, food court area and bars.
• Upper Level Field: Funfair Ride

Wheelchair Access

Please note not all parts of Pontefract Park are wheelchair accessible and there are no paved footpaths.

Should you need any form of medical attention please inform a member of staff or security onsite where they can show you where the medical tent is located or request for a medic to come to you.  

Unfortunately, we do not have any secure storage for medicines on site.
