President of Wakefield Civic Society Kevin Trickett MBE looks back through the Society’s archives and reflects on how the Society – and Wakefield – have changed over the last 60 years.
In March 1964, a public meeting was called by a group of local residents to discuss the establishment of a civic society in Wakefield. That meeting was held at Wakefield Town Hall and attracted around 100 people who were concerned about what was happening to Wakefield’s built heritage. As a result of the meeting, Wakefield Civic Society came into existence and the rest, as they say, is history.
The talk is free and open to all – you don’t have to be a member to attend.
Delivered as part of the Society’s contribution to Our Year 2024.
