About
Love Music Hate Racism is a non‑party political, community‑led organisation focused on strengthening social cohesion across Wakefield. Its work centres on celebrating the district’s rich cultural diversity while creating welcoming spaces where all residents feel valued and included.
This music‑led community event at WX Wakefield Exchange aims to bring people from different backgrounds together for a positive, inclusive experience. The event will showcase local talent, encourage cross‑community understanding, and provide an accessible platform to celebrate the diversity that makes Wakefield vibrant.
The line-up features a mix of local and regional talent, including Jah Digga, Dave Beer, Rookie Numbers, DJ Paul Weston, Blackson, Rebelyous, Catchfly, Rachel Modest, Marc Mushington and Sound Quarry, with more acts set to be announced.
Alongside the live music, the event will include children’s breakdancing workshops and additional activities, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all ages to get involved.
All activity is rooted in inclusivity, community wellbeing and mutual respect, rather than political campaigning. The project is designed to foster connection, break down barriers between communities and support a more welcoming Wakefield for everyone.
The event builds on the success of Rave Against Racism, held on Saturday 13 July 2024 at Beaver Works in Leeds and its feature in Rolling Stone UK’s coverage of how music is responding to right‑wing populism.
