About
To mark the bicentenary of Victorian eco-warrior Charles Waterton’s nine-feet-tall, three‑mile-long wildlife‑protecting wall, the Friends of Waterton’s Wall are launching WallFest 26!
Taking place throughout May, the month‑long celebration will explore four themes – nature, creativity, heritage and wellbeing – with a wonderfully eclectic programme of talks, walks, workshops and community events. Local groups, charities, artists and businesses are all getting involved, and WallFest is shaping up to be a community‑powered tribute to one of Wakefield’s most fascinating environmental pioneers.
The Nest
The majority of WallFest events are being held at The Nest, next to the north west boundary of Waterton’s Wall. The Nest is marked on the map on page 11 of the programme or can be found at What 3 Words ///magical.showering.promotion.
To reach The Nest by bus: Take a 195/196 and ask to get off at Cherry Tree Road, Walton. Cross the road. Walk back the way that you have come for 100m. Turn left, at the public footpath sign (opposite Walton Sports and Social Club). Take this footpath for approximately 700m.
To reach The Nest by car: There is limited car parking at the golf club (The Balk, Walton, Wakefield WF2 6QL). Please park in the designated area and follow signs. This is more accessible for those with reduced mobility and is wheelchair friendly.
