Welcome to day two of WordFest at WX!

Here’s what’s on:

Ocean Biome: Plastic Ocean – Witness the spectacle of an 18m-long, life-size sperm whale, a giant of our oceans, and meet the eccentric marine biologist, Netty Northwest and her friends, the sea creatures and their battle to survive in an ocean full of rubbish. They need your help to save the turtle and the whale from the ocean of rubbish.

Showtimes: 10:30am – 10:50am | 11:00am – 11:20am | 12:30pm – 12:50pm | 1:00pm – 1:40pm | 2:30pm – 2:50pm | 3:00pm – 3:20pm

Land Biome: Pivotal – Pivotal is an interactive art installation. The aim of Pivotal is to playfully acknowledge the relationships between people, and between people and nature; to make us aware of the sounds and natural environment around us, and our impact on those surroundings. Participants are invited to sit on the wooden seats and gently ‘seesaw’. As people interact with the artwork, air pumps are triggered, creating an airflow that pushes up through copper branches of the tree and through a flock of clay bird water whistles.

Showtimes: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Land Biome: Library Storytime – settle down and get cosy for an enchanting story in the enchanted forest.

Showtimes: 3:30-4:00pm

Air Biome:

The Butterfly Effect by Tony Wade – a mesmerising aerial art installation consisting of thousands of hand-decorated paper butterflies which move in the slightest breeze and is an exploration and celebration of the positive steps everyone can take, individually and collectively, to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Showtimes: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Stage Area: Stories Spoken, Stories Sung – Join Jimmy Andrex and Ali Bullivent for our very first WordFest Open Mic event. Jimmy and Ali will create together a short piece inspired by books, paper, trees and conservation issues using words, song, loops and acoustic instruments. Then, you are invited to perform and share your own work, or favourite pieces of prose, poetry or song linked to environment! This is a relaxed session.

Showtimes: 10:00am – 1:00pm

Screen: Wall-E (U) – WALL-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class, is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the planet, one piece of garbage at a time. But during 700 years, WALL-E has developed a personality, and he’s more than a little lonely. Then he spots EVE (Elissa Knight), a sleek and shapely probe sent back to Earth on a scanning mission. Smitten WALL-E embarks on his greatest adventure yet when he follows EVE across the galaxy.

Showtimes: 1:30pm – 3:00pm. Wall-E will be subtitled in English.

The Factory (Former Food Hall): Breathing Room by Anna Berry – a kinetic light installation in which a tunnel lined with cones ‘breathes’, creating a strange and otherworldly immersive experience. On the outside the beautiful and ornate mechanism is the focus of attention, whilst inside you travel through a luminous, gently moving tunnel, for an almost psychedelic experience. In association with Unlimited Arts.

Showtimes: 10:00am – 4:00pm

The Shed (Market Hall): Craft sessions, digital activities, story corner – there are loads of activities happening during the day, including finding out about recycling, things to make and do, games to play, stories to read and lots more!

Showtimes: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Food and drink will be available from 10am – 4pm under the canopy.

Reception desk, information, lost children and property, first aid, security point will be open from 10:00am – 4:00pm in the reception area (The Book).
